The James Madison University Marching Royal Dukes at the 82nd Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.
rough parts: 3AM meeting time at our hotel, 4:20AM rehearsal at Herald Square, waiting forever at Central Park to line up for the parade (without jackets), the epic wind tunnel after Columbus Circle, marching 76 Trombones & 1941 over and over for 2.8 miles.
awesome parts: turning the start of the parade route into a dance party with our cadence, having people scream for us along the parade route (even when we dropped because of the wind), having to hold in Times Square, performing Sing, Sing, Sing in Herald Square, playing our fight song during the transition to commercial, waving back to Al Roker.
up next for the MRDs: taking over the London New Year’s Day Parade in just over a month from now. :)
